Over centuries, both Church and state have been banned carols instead accepted it as a part of Jesus birth’s celebrations. The carols now singing have up to 400 regional variations. Individual carols have caused disputes. Victorians had cleaned up the Shepherd Watched for being too primitive and there is a doubt that O Come All Ye Faithful was a call to 18th century Jacobites to rebel.
The documentary celebrates the undergoing influence of the carol with an assortment of performances from folk singer Bella Hardy to the choir of Truro Cathedral.
