Samsung Galaxy A01 Review

When released in March, the Samsung Galaxy A01 is priced at $110. As a comparison, currently the price of the Galaxy A10s is around $120. According to Samsung, the entry-level smartphone market in the one million segment is very large and very sensitive to price differences. So, which one is better to choose, Galaxy A01 or A10s? Let’s find out and the following review of Samsung Galaxy A01 in full.

Infinity-V Design

Although the price is affordable, the design style of the Samsung Galaxy A01 is the same as the Galaxy A series which is priced more expensive. Appear simple and minimalist with Infinity V display on the face and have rounded corners that feel tight in the palm of the hand. Comes with dimensions of 146.2 × 70.9 × 8.3 mm and weighs 149 grams. Its size is compact and thin, so easily stored in a pants pocket. Even so, actually the screen is still quite wide at 5.7 inches with a resolution of 720 × 1520 pixels in a 19: 9 ratio. The screen quality is indeed not special, but it is sufficient to sustain the user’s smartphone activities. Bezel edge of the screen is quite thin, although the chin is a bit thick but not too annoying and can instead serve as a place to rest your thumb when watching videos in landscape mode.

The body itself is made of plastic material which should make it more durable, but the back cover needs protection so it doesn’t get scratched. Because the contents of the Samsung Galaxy A01 sales package only consist of a smartphone unit, charger head, and microUSB data cable – users should look for scratch resistant and cases that are purchased separately to protect the screen and back cover. The Samsung Galaxy A01 review unit that I tested was black, the other options were blue and red. About the completeness of its attributes, the power button and SIM tray are placed on the right side, and the volume buttons on the opposite side, the buttons are tight and feel solid when pressed. The 3.5mm audio jack is on top, while the microUSB port and microphone are below. For speakers, can be found behind the smartphone body.

OneUI 2.0

This device is already running on the latest Android 10 operating system with the touch of version OneUI 2.0 as found on middle and premium Samsung smartphones. The focus of OneUI 2.0 is to improve user experience and ease of use, the interface is simplified and can be operated with one hand. OneUI 2.0 also buries new Android 10 features, such as new permission options, navigation systems, and includes a dark mode feature. When exploring the main menu, you will find a number of applications with gray logos. It’s called AppCloud, basically Samsung recommends downloading the bloatware to our smartphone. This smartphone does not have a fingerprint sensor, but at least Samsung buried the face unlock feature as a pleasant enough way to unlock smartphones compared to traditional methods such as patterns, PINs, and passwords. When using face unlock, an animation will appear around the front camera, the process is quite fast, and consistent in good lighting.

Complementary Camera

In the price range of one million, the camera is usually only as a complementary feature. In the Galaxy A01, Samsung has buried a dual rear camera setup. The main camera is 13MP resolution with f / 2.2 aperture. Then, the secondary camera is 2MP as a depth sensor for the live focus feature so users can adjust the intensity of the blur effect when shooting. Meanwhile, the front camera is 5MP for selfie and face unlock security system. Both the front and rear cameras of the Samsung Galaxy A01 can record 1080p video. Camera features are not many, there are only five modes recorded, namely photos, videos, live focus, Pro, and panorama. In photo mode, it is equipped with a filter with a beauty mode, so what is quite interesting is the sticker. Here are the results of the photo:

The Samsung Galaxy A01 runway is actually quite powerful, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset. Of course, we also need to be wise in installing games and applications to the Galaxy A01. So far, the performance is quite smooth although it is also often found pauses for example when accessing the camera or opening applications.
