In Japan, there are many abandoned places. These relics of the recent past are called haikyos in Japanese. Currently 8 million homes lie empty in the Japanese archipelago due to the rural exodus, population aging, transition of life style, natural disasters… We follow haikyo explorers to an abandoned school in Yamanashi Prefecture, meet the owner of an abandoned amusement park in Tohoku area and visit a former coal mining village in Nagasaki which has been gaining an attention as an industrial heritage. We will visit different haikyos to see the evolution of the Japanese society.
